3G Network Closure

Telstra has announced its plan to shut down the 3G (850 MHz) network by June 2024. This is as a result of their customers moving from 3G to take up the benefits of newer technology. They are repurposing the 850MHz spectrum, currently used to provide 3G coverage, to support their 5G rollout. More information on this move can be found on the Telstra website.

What is 3G Sunset?

3G Sunset refers to the period when Telstra will shut down their 3G services to make room for the upgrade. When this happens, every device that isn’t 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) compatible or higher will no longer receive service.
