Matrix MX3

MiX Telematics, under it’s stolen vehicle recovery range - Matrix Recovery Service - became one of the first companies to introduce the combined use of GSM and RF technology in vehicle tracking units. To further enhance the tracking and recovery process, the use of GPS technology was then introduced. Our Matrix MX3 uses all three of these technologies to maximize the probability of a successful recovery. This combined use of technology also assist customers in various other applications, specifically designed for the MX3, to help facilitate personal safety and other convenience features.

What is the difference in the technologies and how do they work?

GSM

GSM refers to the Global System for Mobile Communications – more commonly known as Cell-Phone Technology. MiX Telematics uses an extensive GSM network across South Africa that enables us to triangulate the position of your vehicle.

RF

The MX1 also supports a Radio Frequency (RF) beacon technology to track the vehicle to its exact location during a recovery.

GPS

GPS refers to the Global Positioning System. This technology is the best form of position accuracy currently available. GPS technology also enable additional features to be generated using these highly accurate positions.
