MiX Telematics' solutions fitted to 1150 vehicles in Latin America

02 December 2009

SafeDrive International (a MiX Telematics subsidiary) is undertaking a major project to install and implement MiX Telematics’ flagship product, the FM Communicator, to some 1150 vehicles throughout Latin America, (for one of the world’s leading oil and gas industry service providers). This project is aimed at helping improve driver performance and fleet management, all whilst targeting a reduction in motor vehicle incidents or crashes and increasing fleet related cost savings for the company.

The project is being led by SafeDrive International’s technical subject matter experts and is being supported by MiX Telematics’ extensive dealer network within Latin America. This project commenced in January 2009 with an initial install base of 500 vehicles in Venezuela being fitted with MiX Telematics’ FM Communicator – all of which are connected to the web based application, FM-Web. An additional 110 FM Communicators have recently been installed in vehicles throughout Peru, Colombia and Ecuador, with the entire 450 vehicle fleet being connected to FM-Web. Throughout October 2009, a further 210 FM Communicators will be fitted to vehicles throughout Brazil.

‘The fitting of the FM Communicator to vehicles and subsequent connection to FM-Web will enable operational staff to monitor driver behaviour and compliance to real time journey management processes as the means to improve both the safety and security of staff,’ commented Simon Williams, Managing Director of SafeDrive International (SDI). ‘This is a clear demonstration that oil and gas industry service providers are committed to ensuring the safety of their staff, contractors and the communities in which they operate on a daily basis,’ he said.

MiX Telematics holds global contracts with a number of major companies within the oil and gas industry for the provision of Road Safety and Journey Management related solutions and has, through SDI, a proven global performance for delivering world class post license driver training and journey management related solutions. Further projects led by SDI are planned for Mexico, Bolivia and Chile in coming months as Latin American operations continue to expand the utilisation of MiX Telematics’ technology and SDI’s services throughout the region.
