When DS Smith approached MiX Telematics, their recycling division’s head-office was already operating at a high standard thanks to an existing driver and vehicle monitoring program. They required a boost to their driver performance, however.

MiX Telematics recommended and rolled out the MiX Fleet Manager solution with RIBAS in-cab displays in 109 heavy trucks across nine depots. To help DS Smith achieve their goals, MiX also set up a driver engagement program as well as a customized driver scoring system based on RIBAS parameters. The system was calibrated so that a benchmark score of 95% or above represented green-band driving.

Results have included an improvement of 1.6% on fuel performance over and above their existing fuel returns. Other achievements include a 39% reduction in harsh acceleration events and a 57% reduction in harsh braking events, both contributing factors to safe and efficient driving.
